Cardio-thoracic surgery for July 2011–June 2012
Cardio-thoracic surgery is performed on the organs inside the chest, in particular, the heart and lungs. This page presents statistics relating to the hospital's performance of elective cardio-thoracic surgery overall, as well as for a common procedure called a coronary artery bypass graft. In this procedure (also known as 'heart bypass surgery') blood flow through the heart muscle is improved by sewing a healthy blood vessel onto the heart, bypassing a blocked or diseased part of a coronary artery.
