Elective (planned) surgery waiting times

Elective surgery is non-emergency surgery that is planned in advance. It is surgery which, in the opinion of the treating doctor, can be delayed for at least 24 hours. The treating doctor determines how urgently surgery is needed, then assigns the patient to one of three elective surgery urgency categories – urgent, semi-urgent or non-urgent.
