Elective (planned) surgery waiting times

Elective surgery is non-emergency surgery that is planned in advance. It is surgery which, in the opinion of the treating doctor, can be delayed for at least 24 hours. The treating doctor determines how urgently surgery is needed, then assigns the patient to one of three elective surgery urgency categories – urgent, semi-urgent or non-urgent.

General surgery for July 2010–June 2013

General surgery focuses on the organs of the abdomen (such as the stomach, intestines, gall bladder, liver and pancreas), and includes hernia repair and haemorrhoid removal. General surgeons may also treat diseases of the skin and breast.
