Waiting times for care

Cancer surgery waiting times for malignant cancer

The information shown is for planned surgery (sometimes referred to as elective surgery), defined as surgery that can be scheduled by placing the patient on a waiting list. Patients that were deemed to require emergency surgery at the time of planning are not placed on public hospital waiting lists and are not included.

Waiting times are reported for patients:

  • Who had a principal diagnosis of malignant bowel, breast or lung cancer
  • Who received surgery for the treatment of malignant bowel, breast, or lung cancer
  • Whose surgeries were considered to be urgent (required within 30 days) or semi-urgent (required within 90 days) by the treating doctor.

Note: The waiting times for patients who were yet to receive their surgery are not included.
