Length of stay for childbirth

Around 300,000 children are born in Australia each year, and about 70% of these births take place in public hospitals. The data presented here relate to women who had a vaginal or caesarean delivery without complications and who stayed one or more nights.

Vaginal delivery: average length of stay

In 2013–14, there were a total of 586 stays for vaginal delivery, of which 97% were overnight stays.
